Anders Petersen frenchkiss

Swedish photographer Anders Petersen (*1944) rose to fame in 1978 through his groundbreaking series Café Lehmitz, which documented the daily goings-on at a café frequented by transvestites and prostitutes. Since that time Petersen has developed his own inimitable style in his observations of people on the social fringes: unvarnished society photography that depicts the more hidden aspects of humanity. The photographs in French Kiss, taken starting in 2005 in Paris, Gap and St. Etienne, are poetically melancholic, but also exude an air of restlessness and a feeling of urgency. Petersen was nominated for the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2007.
