Anke Erlenhoff

Anke Erlenhoff (1959–2022) was devoted to painting. Paint, brush and canvas were her artistic means of expression, even when she drew on other technical options, for example photography or installation. Her aesthetic decisions were always clear and convincing. In this straightforward attitude can be found one of many reasons for the extraordinary intensity of her pictures. But beyond this they also reveal an aesthetic quality that has grown rare in the contemporary art of postmodernism. Their artistic substance results from a handling of the available means that is as sensitive as it is self-assured; the pictures can be relied on to unfold their effect irrespectively of the rooms where they are displayed. This catalog accompanied exhibitions of Anke Erlenhoff in Germany, Spain, Japan and Switzerland.
