Bündner Kunstmuseum Chur Über die Liebe zum Land Kunst und Landwirtschaft

Visual art has long favored an idealizing conception of peasantry. Until the twentieth century, it often depicted peasant life in the cycle of nature. A grain field in the autumn sun or a mower in the field are images we know from artists such as Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Giovanni Giacometti. The idyll of the peasantry of yore gives way in contemporary art to a questioning of soil erosion or over-cultivation. Since looking at the earth as the origin of agriculture allows us to draw conclusions about climate justice, property relations, or food sovereignty, the book focuses on the relationship between people and the field.Über die Liebe zum Land. Kunst und Landwirtschaft (Love of the Land. Art and Agriculture) sheds light on a topic that is of great importance to society and has always been a central motif in art.
