Ali Mobasser A Love Contained
Ali Mobasser lost his grandfather in 1996, when he was nineteen years old. His aunt Afsaneh handed him a photograph of her father’s heart taken during surgery almost twenty years earlier, thus setting off Mobasser’s artistic oeuvre and sending him across the world to the USA, Iran and back to the UK in search of his family history and heritage. A Love Contained has become a visual journey through the life of a young boy hurled back and forth by life’s circumstances: revolution, exile, divorce, and loss. Ali Mobasser was born in the USA in 1976, after which his family moved back to Iran. In 1979, the Islamic Revolution forced them to leave their country. At the age of eight, he settled in London to be raised by his father’s family in exile. This body of work has been exhibited at the Rencontres d’Arles, among other venues.
