Product information "Andreas Legath"

"This book chronicles Legaths travels through Italy over the years 2005 to 2010. Legaths Italy is made up of barren and scorched landscapes that take this form perhaps only for a few weeks of the year. These are contemplative desert spaces, regions that have regressed back to their stony skeletons, where the artist uncovers nature at an apparent standstill and captures its inertia on his canvases. Legath shows us landscape as a visual puzzle oscillating back and forth between natural vista and material structure. He thus enters into a dialogue with art history, from Romantic painting to Arte Poveras preoccupation with materials and structures. With paint applied in a way that summons visions of rock formations and lava streams, landscape becomes the physical real- ity of Legaths pictures, and the viewer loses himself in the fissured texture of paint layers just as he might in nature". (Anke Humpeneder-Graf) Andreas Legath (*1961) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Legaths works can be found in many museums and collections.
