Araki meets Hokusai
For the first time the kestnergesellschaft presents photographs of the Japanese artist Nobuyoshi Araki in combination with classical Japanese woodcarvings from the collection of the Hanoverian collector Michael Thun. Hokusai's famous wave, which has become the embodiment of traditional Japanese art, meets Arakis' notorious bondage pictures, his opulent and sensual pictures of flowers and repainted as well as scratched photographs. This dialogue stretching a bridge over centuries, points out the development of Japanese art until today. Nobuyoshi Araki (*1940 in Tokio) has published more than 230 books, his works have been shown in all major museums worldwide.
