The Brücke-Museum in Berlin is publishing a comprehensive exhibition catalog based on new findings about the two favorite models of the artists in the "Brücke" group, Fränzi and Marzella. The book looks at relevant works in the Berlin collection against the backdrop of the lives of these two girls. Fränzi and Marzella joined the larger circle of "Brücke" models during the years 1909 to 1911. They play an important role especially in the works of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel and Max Pechstein. With their childlike abandon, free and uninhibited movements, and youthfulness, they fired the artists' creative imaginations. The many works featuring the two models include rough sketches, expressive graphic works, and colorful watercolors and paintings. The book features current research that sheds new light on Fränzi Fehrmann and Marzella Sprentzel as well as examining various aspects of their significance for the artists' group.
