Product information "Chris Buck"

Presence is a counter-intuitive, conceptual, and thoroughly entertaining take on the search for celebrity. Photographer Chris Buck hides his famous subjects without the use of digital manipulation in this perverse take on power portraits. The book features fifty sittings, including Robert De Niro, Günter Grass, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Chuck Close, Cindy Sherman, Russell Brand, Snoop Dogg, Nick Cave and David Lynch. Chris Buck has been a professional photographer for more than twenty years. Hailing from Canada and now based in New York and Los Angeles, he shoots for such clients as GQ, Esquire, Microsoft, and IBM. His roster of subjects comprises some of the leading actors, artists, and historical figures of our time. His mastery of – and uniqueness within – the world of celebrity portraiture prompted the legendary Esquire cover designer George Lois to say of his editorial portraits, "Every Chris Buck photo is a mystery, a pervading, off-putting idea, always conceptual, often visceral, and sometimes unfathomable." His work regularly appears in the photo annuals of Photo District News, the American Photography book series, and Comunication Arts. In 2007 he was the first recipient of the prestigious Arnold Newman Portrait Prize.
