The Palermo Project is a photographic portrait of the city of Palermo in Sicily. Departing from classical urban documentary photography, Gabrielle Strijewski's almost abstract photographs succeed at revealing the city's identity without showing us any of the obvious things like people, streets or buildings.The photographer has captured the essence of Palermo in a complex of images that can be considered an artwork in its own right. In these rich compositions, Strijewski's unrivaled feeling for light, color, structure, and texture lend each and every motif a special appeal. The series was awarded the Premio Unesco Trapani per l'Arte. It has been exhibited in Palermo and at the Hessen State Ministry of Higher Education,Research and the Arts. Strijewski lives and works in Frankfurt/Main.
