Das Vertraute im Fremden
The publication Foreign – Familiar shows current photographs from Asia. It concentrates on the place where foreignness and familiarity meet, namely on the question: "How does a photographer perceive and describe a culture or society in which he lives, which is at once strange and familiar to him, but which in most cases regards him as an outsider?" Based on this question, works by nine Western artists who have one thing in common were selected: they live and work primarily in Asia. The expertise they have gained through the personal experience of living abroad allows them to get closer to their subjects and, ideally, to analyze them with greater intensity.
