Product information "Frank Badur"

The book Frank Badur is being published on the occasion of three exhibitions of paintings, drawings and graphic art that are being mounted to celebrate the artist's 65th birthday. Badur lives in Finland and Berlin, where he has been a professor of painting at the University of the Arts since 1985. His work has been shown by numerous international institutions and is represented in important European and American collections. Although at first glance he may seem to be a representative of geometric abstraction, Badur is an artist who can by no means be pigeonholed merely as a devotee of Concrete or Essential Art. A vital, sensual delight in color and line run through all of his work. In painting he takes on issues of dimension and proportion, investigating the tonality and intensity of colors in more or less rigidly ordered fields and stripes. On paper by contrast, freeform lines alternate with clear grid structures, creating compositions with virtuoso rhythms. Influences of non-European art and architecture flow into his work, as does his interest in the traditions of postwar American art.
