Product information "Goethe-Institut Moskau"

"Photographing the Future" – this sounds paradoxical at first. Usually photography is inextricably linked to the present or the past. More than any other medium, it deals with the issue of passing time. The photographer presses the shutter release and records traces of events. The Goethe-Institut invited five German and five Russian photographers to attempt to look in the other direction. The artists constructed images at the computer or photographed models they built to create utopian and dystopian places and landscapes. They also took pictures of aspects of the present pointing towards the future. The project and the exhibition both pursue this utopian potential of contemporary photography and were realised by the Goethe-Institut Moscow on the occasion of the German Year. Photographs by: Olga Chernysheva, Vladislav Efimov, Sofia Gavrilova, Beate Gütschow, Yakov Kazhdan, Anton Kuryshev, Eva Leitolf, Sascha Pohflepp und / and Chris Woebken, Ricarda Roggan, Jens Sundheim
