Haus der Photographie, Deichtorhallen Hamburg Cocktail Prolongé: F.C. Gundlach Special
This publication and exhibition focus on the diverse possibilities for staging physicality, whereby the body is understood as a medium for conveying different roles, projections, desires, and fantasies. The approximately two hundred fifty objects presented from the F.C. Gundlach collection— dating from 1900 to the present and assembled by him since the mid-1970s—are not only highly topical in terms of the new constellation of the queer community, they also open up a view of an exciting yet intimate area of this private collection: the vulnerable and the defensive, the tamed and the untamed, the patient and the restless body, illuminated from a wide variety of perspectives and motivations by the approximately sixty participating photographers.
Artists: Berenice Abbott, Anonymous, Diane Arbus, Merry Alpern, Richard Avedon, Jean-François Bauret, Hans Bellmer, Auguste Belloc, Erwin Blumenfeld, Katharina Bosse, Guy Bourdin, Bill Brandt, Brassaï, Harry Callahan, Larry Clark, John Coplans, Jimmy DeSana, Rineke Dijkstra, Jiří Georg Dokoupil, Lee Friedlander, Charles Gatewood, Greg Gorman, Fergus Greer, F.C. Gundlach, Thomas Hesterberg, Jenny Holzer, Horst P. Horst, Peter Hujar, Allen Jones, Dora Philippine Kallmus, Barry Kay, Richard Kern, André Kertész, Jürgen Klauke, Barbara Klemm, Les Krims, Photo Lacaze, Zoe Leonard, Leon Levinstein, Robert Mapplethorpe, Leonore Mau, Will McBride, Lisette Model, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, George Platt Lynes, Guglielmo Plüschow, Arnulf Rainer, John Rawlings, Man Ray, Joke Reichel, Gerhard Riebicke, Herb Ritts, Christina García Rodero, Franz Roh, August Sander, Peter Schreiner, Gundula Schulze Eldowy, Cindy Sherman, Laurie Simmons, Wolfgang Tillmans, Herbert Tobias, Oliviero Toscani, Wilhelm van Gloeden, Jeff Wall, John Waters, Weegee, Edward Weston, Joel-Peter Witkin, Ajamu X
