Product information "Hector Förderpreis"

Hannes Broecker (b. 1980), the most recent winner of the Hector Promotional Prize awarded by the Kunsthalle Mannheim, straddles the genres of painting, sculpture and installation in works that explore the ostensible dark sides of the cityscape. The creativity that can be found blossoming on the street in the midst of our modern urban wastelands particularly captivates the Berlin artist. But Broecker by no means transfers the signs and symbols of anonymous Street Art, with their messages and statements or staking out of territorial boundaries, one-to-one to the exhibition context. Instead, he reduces them to the visual bare minimum in order to confront the viewer with unfamiliar abstract forms. In addition to works from Broecker's oeuvre, the catalog also examines a new work the artist created specifically for the exhibition.
