Heidi Violand-Hobi Eva Aeppli Akrobatin zwischen Himmel und Erde
In this first monograph, Eva Aeppli’s (1925– 2015) life work and personality unfold in front of the reader, starting with her artistic beginning in France in 1953 with the portrait drawings in charcoal, followed by life-size textile figures and bronze heads. Just when painting was once again declared dead, Aeppli began her large-format oil paintings, with which she created artistic spells of evilness. She then switched to needle and thread, invented a new technique, and formed her »scarred people,« fabric sculptures that appeared individually or in groups. With findings from astrology, she reduced her figures to heads – cosmic formations, to which she now gave a face. Her works have been exhibited and collected from Paris to New York, from Germany and Sweden to Switzerland.
