Jessica Backhaus Once, Still and Forever Signierte limitierte 2. Auflage
"Backhaus paints with the layers of the world, finding strokes of beauty in the otherwise mundane." Shane Lavalette Still lifes always played an important part in Jessica Backhaus' work, and even more so in Once, still and forever with photographs taken all over the western world. She concentrates on fragments, everyday items cast away, often reflections. Like a butterfly collector chasing beautiful specimens, she chases images. They often defy explanation but they resonate deeply. Memory of what she has experienced, merge into a wonderful timeless tapestry of color, light and shadow. The personal and cultural changes brought by the return to her homeland after a long time abroad resulted in increased awareness and reflection on the fragility of our existence and feelings, which the photographer translates in her characteristic visual language.
