Kunsthalle Mannheim Nur Skulptur!
Mannheim's special collection of modern sculpture, outstanding in terms of both quality and quantity, is the point of departure for this one-of-a-kind exhibition and research project initiated by the artist / curator Bogomir Ecker. With some 380 works, half of the Mannheim sculptures will be presented in unusual and intriguing perceptual contexts. Bogomir Ecker (professor of interdisciplinary art at Braunschweig University of Art) and his international sculptor colleagues John Bock, Thomas Hirschhorn, Thomas Rentmeister, Roman Signer and Kiki Smith interpret and stage the historic sculptural inventory from a contemporary perspective. They have sought out fresh and bold alternatives to traditional forms of presentation such as pedestal or display case. The entire Mitzlaff building – soon to be torn down to make way for a new structure – hence becomes a field for artistic experimentation on the theme of sculpture at the museum. The project is supported by the German Federal Cultural Foundation.
