Martin Streit Lichtkammer
The occasion for this publication is a 14-meter walkable camera obscura that will be accessible to the public in September 2014 on the plaza in front of Cologne Cathedral. In his works, Martin Streit invites us to experience the very act of seeing as an image-generating process. Various media, such as paintings and photographs made with a portable camera obscura, as well as the walkable camera obscura installations, are placed side by side on equal footing. In the artist's latest works, photographic motifs are transformed into paintings. Despite the various genres represented, such as figural painting, architectural renderings, and still lifes, something all of Streit's works share is their ability to captivate us with the many different forms taken by light. With their subtle chromatic modulation, they evoke a "dreamlike sensation of light."
