Product information "Meike Fischer"

Meike Fischer has created a moving series of photographs about a Frankfurt women's prison that closed down shortly before – tranquil images located somewhere between documentation and essay. The bare cells with their eight square meters or so of floor space are equipped with a bed, toilet bowl, table and chair. The only other furniture is a sink and small mirror. Some cells have colored walls – painted by prison staff according to the inmate's wishes, at least one small personal touch. Each prisoner also had a small bulletin board on which to hang up personal items. After the cells were vacated, the dates, names and vows of love carved into tables and walls attest to the women's loneliness, waiting, anger and dreams.
