Myriam Thyes Shifting Symbols in Digital Spaces Myriam Thyes. Works 2009 – 2025
Video installations, animations, and photomontages: the new catalogue by artist Myriam Thyes brings together works from the past fifteen years. In her digital practice, Thyes offers a subtle and often ironic reflection on contemporary social realities: skyscrapers and geometric forms intrude upon Baroque ceiling frescoes, while defiant female protagonists look out at us from oval portrait medallions. Archaic and contemporary symbols of femininity, alongside feminist iconography, are set in motion as choreographed animations. A visual artist of Swiss and Luxembourgish origin, Thyes lives and works in Düsseldorf and Zurich. She studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1986 to 1992. Her work has been widely exhibited internationally, and she has received numerous scholarships, awards, and grants
