Product information "Sarah Hildebrand"

Swiss artist Sarah Hildebrand photographs rooms that have been abandoned temporarily, or forever, trying to pick up traces of the presence of the people who once occupied them. Her research is like a visit in her imagination to an extraordinary house, feeling out its sensual and poetic resonances. The photographs manage to compress the atmosphere to the point where you can almost hear the creaking floorboards and the voices of the absent residents. Worn seat cushions, beds that still bear the impression of the bodies that slept there, and pictures that were surely charged with memories for the people who once contemplated them give us an idea of who might once have inhabited these rooms. Where are they now? What prompted them to leave their homes? What stories do the spaces conceal, and what do they reveal? A preface by wellknown photographer Jessica Backhaus accompanies these images, and an analysis by art historian Klara Tuszynski rounds off this first book of photos by Sarah Hildebrand.
