Saskia Schüler Es hat sich alles so ergeben
What unites Saskia Schüler's works is a conceptual approach, with which she addresses issues of distance and closeness, time, memory and language. The formal vocabulary of the former student at Frankfurt's Städel school is reminiscent of both needlework and computer graphics. But Schüler uses the computer solely as a way to collect motifs and to create the templates for her drawings and paintings. Painstakingly, the artist transfers pixels by hand to a self-devised counting system, for example, blocks of five lines, or in a row of letters. This method of execution is tedious, almost meditative. The limitations of the creative means chosen dictate the minimalist look of these works, which reflect both individual involvement and collective experiences.
