Product information "Susan Hefuna"

Drawing plays an essential role in the work of German-Egyptian artist Susan Hefuna. "The drawings of Susan Hefunas do not consciously portray anything or anyone. They are poetic analogies possessing their own ornamental order. The non-representational of Islam undoubtedly has its advantages that gave rise to a rich culture. According to this insight the pictures perceptual space is enhanced by concrete lines and forms. In this visual world the small, microscopic also represents the large. Exactly this state of being is expressed in these jewels from Susan Hefuna. This is her intended purpose." (Tayfun Belgin) Hefunas drawings are in many international collections, e.g. the MoMA, New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the British Museum, London, the Centre Pompidou and the Louvre, Paris. 2009, about 300 of her multi-layered drawings on translucent paper were shown at the Venice Biannial. 2010 she was included in the exhibition On Line: Drawing Through the Twentieth Century, at MoMA, and 2013 NOTATIONOTATIONS im Drawing Center, New York. She received the 2013 Daniel and Florence Guerlain Contemporary Drawing Prize in Paris.
