Tamany Baker Living with Wolfie
Without the "gifts" given her by her cat Wolfie, these images would never have come about: English photographer Tamany Baker kept finding small dead animals in and around the house that her four-legged companion had caught. At first irritated, the photographer gradually began to make peace with her feline friend's nature and to provide the "deceased" with a fitting setting: framing them with colorful petals, delicate feathers or silky fabrics. The dead animals are thus honored in a manner otherwise known only in the human context. The unifying aspect is the encounter with transience and death. Tamany Baker has been taking photographs for 20 years and won the 2009 Sony World Photography Award in the category "Conceptual and Constructed" for her work "Living with Wolfie."
