Kehrer Verlag – Art and Photography Publishers
Kehrer Verlag is among the world’s leading publishers of photo books. Founded in 1995 by Klaus Kehrer, it is also one of the few independent publishing houses in Germany. In addition to photography, further focal points include contemporary art, art of the 17th through the 20th centuries, and international sound art.
Over the years, numerous Kehrer publications have been nominated for and honored with international book awards. From 2011 through 2016, Kehrer was also the German partner of the European Publishers Award for Photography (EPAP), an initiative launched by European publishing houses to promote contemporary photography.
Kehrer books can be found in our online shop, in all well-stocked art and photo bookstores, at the most important art and photo fairs, and through our worldwide network of representatives.
Kehrer Design – Studio for Design and Image Processing
Under the same roof as the publishing house, the Kehrer Design team looks after the entire production chain of our publications. Each book is the unique result of close cooperation with our respective partners: artists, authors, museums, and cultural institutions. The connecting element is the high creative and technical quality of Made in Germany.
Our book designers develop the individual layouts and cover designs in intensive dialogue with artists and authors, selecting the appropriate typography, as well as papers and cover materials. When cooperating with external designers, they advise, give technical support, and ensure the quality of the printing files.
With considerable experience and attention to detail, our picture editors ensure that the image data, as well as printing results, correspond with the originals and the artist’s intentions. The data are optimized for printing along the entire production chain, from profile adjustments, color matching, and retouching to the press proof on the printing machine. In the print shop, the picture editors work together with the printers on site to ensure the highest printing quality and give the illustrations the finishing touches.
The production team at Kehrer Design organizes the technical realization and ensures a smooth production process in cooperation with experienced printers and bookbinders from the region.
