CHE Onejoon International Friendship. The Gifts from Africa

This book presents CHE Onejoon’s documentary project, Mansudae Master Class. The project traces the statues, monuments, and buildings built by North Korea’s Mansudae Art Studio in eighteen African countries from the 1970s to the present. Among them, roughly half of the countries received these constructions from Kim Il-sung for free.
CHE Onejoon (b. 1979 in Seoul), a visual artist and filmmaker, started his career as an evidence photographer. His works have been exhibited internationally at the Taipei Biennale, Palais de Tokyo, Musée du quai Branly, SeMA Biennale Mediacity Seoul, Venice Architecture Biennale, New Museum Triennial, Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Busan Biennale, and many others.
