Abraham David Christian Silva Nigra Der Schwarze Wald
In 2013, the internationally renowned draughtsman and sculptor Abraham David Christian (b. 1952) created the 81-part series of drawings Silva Nigra. Der schwarze Wald. Following a well-received exhibition in Japan, the drawings are now being presented for the first time in Germany. Christian travelled around randomly in the Black Forest, hiking through this large territory intuitively, neglecting well-known and larger towns. At sites intuitively significant for him, he stopped time by drawing. His drawings have the eminent task of making what he perceived visible, interrupting the flow of time, and reflecting upon reality without words.
Abraham David Christian participated in the documenta in 1972 and 1982. His drawings and sculptures are represented in numerous private collections and museums in Germany and abroad. Sculptures by him can also be found in public spaces in, among others, The Hague, The National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, the Museum Ludwig in Cologne, and the Nationalgalerie in Berlin.
