Product information "Bleicke Bleicken"

Unpublished treasures from the archive of Bleicke Bleicken (1898–1973)! For decades, the autodidact—Bleicken was a teacher and later mayor of Kampen, Sylt—captured life on the North Sea island of Sylt with his camera like no other photographer. In the course of his artistic work, his fascination with nature increasingly came to the fore: The vast landscape, the dunes, the sea, and the sky over Sylt were Bleicken’s primary motifs. Experimental close-ups with his Rolleiflex camera also opened up a new view for him of the island’s flora and fauna. Sylt. Meine Insel (Kehrer, 2014) featured Bleicken’s black-and-white photographs from the first half of the 20th century. The color images collected here likewise evoke memories and longing and take us on a colorful journey back in time to the 1950s and ’60s.
