Product information "Jason Langer"

Photographer Jason Langer immerses himself in the exuberant nighttime performance scene of Portland, Oregon. Over five years, he documented and interviewed more than one hundred performers whose acts blur disguise and revelation. Photographing in the backs of strip clubs and private homes, Langer portrays exotic and burlesque dancers, drag queens, clowns, and aerialists who transform personal histories of pain, liberation, and resilience into art. His intimate color images confront questions of vulnerability, gender, beauty, and power, revealing a subculture that lives in secrecy yet longs to be seen. Langer (b. 1967) is a photographer and educator whose work has been widely exhibited and published. His work is held in major collections including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Yale University Art Gallery, and the Sir Elton John Collection.
