Product information "Maik und Dirk Löbbert"

In 1985 Maik and Dirk Löbbert began collecting bulk garbage items left on the sidewalk for pickup in Cologne and Düsseldorf and integrating them into the urban space as sculptural arrangements. The works were installed, photographed and then abandoned to their fate. Since that first joint project, a creative and original working relationship between the two brothers as artist duo has developed and thrived for more than 25 years. Evincing sensitivity and keen powers of observation, and marked by their own brand of subtle and intelligent humor, their artistic concepts always display a singularly fitting reaction to the concrete situation of a particular site. Their intention is to open up new perspectives for viewers, helping to broaden the way they look at both reality and art. Conceived on the occasion of the exhibition MDL 25, the catalog provides the first comprehensive survey of the work of Maik and Dirk Löbbert, giving rise to interesting insights into how their art has developed since 1985 and the impact it has unfolded.
