Product information "Miroslav Tichy"

When Harald Szeemann first presented the work of Miroslav Tichý (1926 – 2011) to the general public in 2004 at the Biennale of Sevilla, a new star rose in the art-world firmament. Tichý was a painter, a photographer and an ascetic who expanded the boundaries of photography with striking inventiveness by adding to it a new chapter that was as singular as it was enchanting: after training as a painter he dedicated himself secretly and obsessively to taking pictures of the women in his hometown. Living in the province of South Moravia in the darkest days of Czechoslovakian socialism, he managed to celebrate the beauty of woman in a coherent œuvre that is without par. Based on a wide selection of previously unpublished images and documents, the publication reflects critically on the career of the great artistic personality and revisit the myths of his existence.
