Susa Templin Real Estate
Susa Templin builds spaces. Her starting point is photography, although she doesn't view herself as a photographer in the classic sense. The individual image is therefore not the focus of her art; she works instead in cycles and thematic series, her photographs serving primarily as a basis, as building blocks that she combines with other media – models, sculptures or installations – to penetrate into real space. In other words: the photographs, which always depict three-dimensional space but are themselves flat, are expanded into sculptural picture-buildings that can be physically experienced in space, inviting the viewer to enter them and move around in them. The catalogue "Real Estate" gathers together various work cycles by the artist, who lives and works in Berlin and Frankfurt. Starting with her photographic urban expeditions during a several-year stay in New York, it continues with works tracing her interest in water and in simulations of nature. In the cycles "Reflexive Spaces" and "Totale Wohung," Susa Templin then engages with residential buildings and interiors.
