Product information "Willi Gutmann"

The Swiss artist Willi Gutmann created timeless works of outstanding beauty. His largest work, a 24.5-meter-tall sculptural group, stands in San Francisco. The smallest work is a dismountable cube, the sides of which measure only one centimeter. Such contrasts – monumental / miniature, taking apart / putting together, positive / negative, constructivist / organic – are characteristic of Willi Gutmann’s artistic work. The inclusion of the viewer in the final result of a work of art was one of his primary concerns. Although Willi Gutmann’s variable sculptures represent a unique contribution to kinetic art, they have yet to be appropriately appreciated. This book is the first comprehensive publication of the sculptural work of this extraordinary artist.

After completing his studies at the School of Arts and Crafts in Zurich, Willi Gutmann (1927 in Dielsdorf – 2013 in Oberhasli) set up an office for interior design, whereby he was also always active as an artist. In 1965, he began working exclusively as an independent sculptor. As early as three years later, he installed monumental sculptures in both the USA and Mexico.
