Kunstforum Wien Flying High – Künstlerinnen der Art Brut
Today, the concept of Art Brut goes beyond the exclusive focus of works created in psychiatric institutions and includes »mediumistic« (spiritled) artists, so-called »loners,« and works by artists with disabilities. For the first time, the comprehensive exhibition at the Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien focuses on female positions in Art Brut and, with over 300 works by 93 female artists, demonstrates their diversity and internationality, as well as their historical and contemporary dimensions. The exhibition and book focus attention on the artists of Art Brut and invite visitors to discover a nearly infinite spectrum of artistic production by women. For in art, as everywhere else, only that which can be perceived actually exists.
