Modell für ein Museum. Die Sammlung des Kunstmuseums Luzern 2005 – 2010
Museums usually show their permanent collections in a static presentation. But a few years ago the Museum of Art Lucerne decided to try out a different way of handling the works in its collection: it now presents them in continually new constellations, as thematic exhibitions. This concept mirrors the international tendency to depart from the canonical view of art history in favor of a more individual and dialogue-based engagement with art. This publication presents twelve widely divergent exhibitions as examples of how a creative approach – which does not, however, dispense with academic and conservational rigor – can help to compellingly convey the many layers and specific qualities of a collection of art objects.
