Ingrid Mwangi Your Own Soul

Being the daughter of a Kenyan man and a German woman, the media artist Ingrid Mwangi is rooted in Africa and Europe alike. She calls herself a hyphenated person, belonging to the growing number of people who must shape an new identity between the cultures. Mwangi's works document her journey to her self, dealing with deeply-rooted patterns of behavior and attitudes that lead to social, political and cultural stigmatization. As a self confident person, she explores and presents her own corporeality determined by her body, her skin, her dreadlocks, and her voice. Documenting a selction of installations, perfomances, and photo works of the last years, this book is published on the occasion of the exhibitions 2002 in the Stadtgalerie Saarbrücken and 2003 in the Städtische Galerie Erlangen.
