Peter Ablinger HÖREN hören

Peter Ablinger (*1959) is a sceptic who understands the rules of the culture-game imposed by tradition and listening habits. hearing LISTENING presents the internationally renowned composer for the first time in an art context. Since the early 1990s, the Austrian investigates the relation between maximal abstraction and the approximation to the world. Some works constitute a kind of acoustic photography which depicts with precision what is missed under everyday circumstances: rustling leaves, street din, trains in motion, the sounds of restaurants, courtyards, vacuum cleaners among others. By getting close to the source of sounds, Ablinger annuls their representational function. The noise is being isolated. Stripped of all conditioned relations, it becomes an event in itself as well as a pleasure.
