Philipp Haager Phasis

Landscapes plunged into mysterious darkness, our gaze receding into seemingly endless depths, an atmosphere infused with mysticism. Both the storm and the calm before – and after. This publication presents recent works by the artist in which colors increasingly break through what to date have been somber picture spaces. It's as if in these black, large-format ink images, which have attracted attention beyond the region in exhibitions such as Back to Black (Kestnergesellschaft), the artist had already sown the whole spectrum of future possibilities. The title Phasis can be read as a dedication to the sacred space, or as an indication of the divergence between visual perception itself and the challenge the painter sets himself as a passionate commitment: to portray the invisible.
