Fotografie im Diskurs performativer Kulturen

A statement can be said to be performative when it itself executes what it describes. Can this understanding of performance also be applied to photography, in the sense that the act of taking a picture is inscribed in the photograph itself? Ever since its invention, photography as an apparatus for active image-making rather than passive recording has been the subject of interrogation and analyses, interpreted in relation to philosophical or media-theory positions. What is new in the approach taken here is the effort to demonstrate that discourses on photography are increasingly becoming part of the medium itself, that they constitute new processes and that can provide stimulus for image-making.
