Torrance York Semaphore

After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Torrance York focused her camera on the challenge of incorporating this life-changing knowledge into her sense of self. York presents photos of nature, the human body, medical images, details from everyday life, and light to metaphorically describe her changed perspective after diagnosis. From an experience often described as somber or exclusionary, York emerges with still, generous and radiant images that reveal human vulnerability while at the same time inspiring optimism and connectedness. More than ten million people worldwide are living with Parkinson's. In addition to them, York’s book speaks to all people whose journeys require growth, patience and perseverance for the path ahead.
